According to reports, Suzuki will launch its first all-electric vehicle in India, followed by Japan and Europe

Recent reports indicate that Maruti Suzuki will launch its first EV in India by 2025. This will also be parent company Suzuki’s first all-electric vehicle, which will first go on sale in India, followed by Japan and Europe.

That’s not all though. The report also suggests that the EV will be priced at 1.5 million Japanese Yen. A simple conversion puts that at around Rs 10 lakh, which is also what the expected WagonR-based EV is likely to be priced at.

These plans seem to be aligned with the sightings taking place in India. Multiple test mules of a Maruti EV have been spotted in India for quite some time now. Suzuki is also setting up a battery plant in Gujarat, which should help it to keep the pricing of its EVs competitive.

While Maruti has claimed the lack of infrastructure as its main obstacle in entering the EV space, the new plant can prove to make the move a bit more viable. The wait for Maruti’s EV still extends all the way to 2025. Maruti is still late to the party, as other Indian carmakers like Tata and Mahindra will see multiple EVs launch by then. Tata is planning on launching 10 new EVs by 2025, and Mahindra’s plans include six EVs by 2026.
