Skoda's chic seven-seater is gunning for glory against the Ford Endeavour and the Toyota Fortuner

Skoda Kodiaq
It's here! Skoda has served up their first ever full-size SUV for the Indian market. The Kodiaq is available in a single variant that's priced at Rs 34.49 lakh (ex-showroom, India). For reference, the equivalent Fortuner retails for Rs 31.47 lakh, whereas the Endeavour has a Rs 31.40 lakh price tag. The Czech automaker is also offering a standard 4 year/100,000km warranty as well, just like it did for the Octavia. There's a maintenance package as well, that will set you back by Rs 59,999 for 4 years/60,000 km. Deliveries will start from November.

What does it look like?

Skoda Kodiaq

A big slab of crystal. It looks like designers had a ball conjuring up the Kodiaq because there's detail everywhere. The crisp clefts on the boot, the prominent shoulder line and that trademark Skoda "butterfly" grille gel well together.

It isn't your macho, bulbous SUV. Based on a monocoque construction, it doesn't have a hardcore off-roader air to it either. What you see as a result, is a posh-looking people mover. It's more beefy station-wagon than SUV in our books. The cladding along the body, the all-LED headlamps and the 18-inch alloys do just enough to give it some aggression.

Plush on the inside?

Oh, yes. There's soft touch material on the dash, and the door pads. The colour palette mixes beige, ash wood and black leather which looks expensive. Then, there's the kit on offer. The top-spec version gets an 8.0-inch touchscreen with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay that's paired with a stellar 12-speaker Canton audio system. Then there are the usual luxo-car goodies such as three-zone climate control, a panoramic sunroof, and electric seats with memory.

Then there are the clever bits such as the torch in the boot and the door protector that pops out so you don't ding that bodywork.

Can it go off-road?

Skoda Kodiaq

Sorta. Don't blindly follow an Endeavour or a Fortuner is all we'd say. All-wheel drive is standard, and so are driving modes that include Normal, Eco, Comfort, Sport, Individual and Snow. Engine options include the dependable 2.0-litre diesel that's tuned to produces 150PS and 340Nm. The engine is combined with a 7-speed dual-clutch automatic gearbox. We've already sampled the Kodiaq in India, you can click the link below to know what it's like to drive.
