It will join the 1.4-litre turbo petrol option in the GT Line

  • The Seltos is available in two trim lines: GT Line and Tech Line.
  • The GT diesel trim increases the variant split to 9 in total.
  • The GTX+ diesel variant will be powered by a 1.5-litre 115PS/250Nm motor paired with a 6-speed automatic gearbox.
  • It is expected to be priced at Rs 16.99 lakh.

Just as Kia finally launched the Seltos SUV in India, many were hoping for the GT Line to get a diesel option. Now after conflicting earlier reports, Kia has finally confirmed that the 1.5-litre CRDI diesel motor will join the 1.4-litre turbo petrol in the GT Line, albeit at a later date. The diesel will be available in the range topping GTX+ variant, utilising a 6-speed automatic transmission.

The GT X+ is the top-of-the-line variant which comes with all the bells and whistles, namely the Bose premium sound system, a sunroof, 360-degree camera, ventilated front seats, 8-way powered driver’s seat and more. Over the HT X+ variant, it gets features like a 360-degree parking camera, blind view monitor, 6-airbags and the 8-inch heads-up display.

The Seltos is available in two trim lines - GT Line and Tech Line. Engine options consist of a Tech Line-exclusive 1.5-litre petrol making  115PS of power and 144Nm of torque. The more powerful 1.4-litre T-GDI which makes a healthy 140PS and 242Nm of torque is only available in the GT Line. The 1.5-litre CRDI diesel motor delivers 115PS and 250Nm of torque. Currently, it is only available in the Tech Line trim,  however it will come in the GT X+ variant at a later date.

Coming to the transmission options, the 1.5-litre is available in 6-speed manual and CVT transmissions. The 1.4-litre petrol gets a 6-speed MT and a 7-speed DCT gearbox option. And finally, the 1,5-litre diesel is mated to a 6-speed MT and a 6-speed automatic gearbox. Automatic transmissions in the Tech Line consist of a CVT for the HTX petrol variant and the 6-speed auto box for the HTK+ and the HTX+ diesel variants. In the GT Line, with the addition of the diesel option, there are now two types of auto boxes available with the 7-speed DCT for the GTX petrol and the 6-speed auto box for the GTX+ diesel.

The 8 variants of the Seltos are sold at a price range between Rs 9.69 lakh and 15.99 lakh (ex-showroom). Prices for the GTX+ diesel haven’t been revealed yet, but we expect it to come at a price tag of Rs 16.99 lakh (ex-showroom). The Seltos will take on the highly competitive segment that is comprised of the Hyundai Creta, Tata Harrier, MG Hector and the Mahindra XUV500.
