Jeep offers the option of replacing the windshield on the Wrangler with a more durable one made of Gorilla Glass.
Yes, the same Gorilla Glass associated with smartphone display durability in the past few years. Made by Corning, Gorilla Glass is touted as a highly durable and impact-resistant material, and with the technology improving with each iteration, Jeep is now using it in its automobiles. Here’s what’s different.

According to reports on social media, the Wrangler has been prone to windshield damage due to the steep upright positioning of the screen making it vulnerable to flying pebbles or small stones. Hence, improving the durability of the windshield was one of the main areas of focus for Jeep.

With smartphones, there has only been one major drawback with Gorilla Glass. By making it much more resistant to breakage by heavy impact, it ends up being more prone to surface scratches. However, that shouldn’t be a cause for concern when it comes to cars, since heavy impact damage is what everyone is looking to prevent.
Jeep has worked with Corning to make a viable Gorilla Glass windshield. Maybe we could see a similar solution for the Thar, which faces similar issues too.
