With lakhs of BS4 two-wheelers still rumoured to be unsold, Hero MotoCorp has informed its dealers that it will take back all unsold BS4 units after the extension period ends. In an online report, a Hero dealer has claimed that the company will be reaching out to its dealers soon on how to absorb the unsold BS4 inventory.
Recently, the Supreme Court allowed the sales of BS4 vehicles to continue despite the earlier deadline of March 31. There are a few stipulations, though. First, it will only be for a 10-day period from once the lockdown is lifted, which means from April 15-25. Second, dealers will only be able to sell 10 per cent of the remaining BS4 stock. Lastly, the above will not be applicable to the Delhi-NCR sector, which means that there will be no extension for dealers in that area.
It is rumoured that almost 7 lakh BS4 two-wheelers are still unsold, with a majority of them from brands such as Hero and Honda. Once Hero absorbs these units, it is highly likely that it will export these bikes to Latin America and African countries where the emission norms are a bit lax. Royal Enfield has been ahead of the curve and sold off its BS4 stock way before the deadline came into effect. Even Bajaj and Suzuki are believed to have depleted their BS4 stock.
