Everyone is lending a helping hand during the current COVID-19 situation, and the auto industry is no exception. In fact, it’s one of the leading contributors. This is being demonstrated even further by Hero MotoCorp, which has donated 60 bike (trike, actually) ambulances to help combat the pandemic.
The ambulances, based on the Hero Xtreme 200R, have been constructed by adding on a sidecar of sorts. The sidecar features a flat bed-like construction where a patient can be placed flat. The sidecar rolls on its own wheel and features a swingarm suspended on two shock absorbers to ensure a smooth ride for the patient. The positioning and layout of the wheels does look like it might be slightly unstable, though, especially if a heavy patient were to sit on the front of the bed.

The main purpose of these ambulances is to pick up patients from rural areas where transportation is not freely available, and carry them to nearby hospitals. The ambulances are also equipped with emergency lights and a siren to help clear the way. The Xtreme 200R is the most powerful model in Hero’s lineup, making it well-suited to the job: its 199.6cc motor churns out 18.4PS and 17.1Nm.
The Hero Group has already donated Rs 100 crore to help fight COVID-19, of which half has gone to the PM CARES Fund and the other half is being used for other relief efforts.
