The automatic version will utilise the 1.2-litre unit, helping with tax benefits

  • The Figo petrol was earlier offered with a 1.5-litre unit which has now been axed.

  • It has not featured an automatic version since January 2020.

  • Ford could offer the automatic variants at a premium of a lakh over the manual ones.

Ford India’s upcoming Figo automatic now has a launch date: July 22.

The hatchback, along with the Aspire, saw its automatic variants being axed back in January 2020. While it’s set to get an automatic once more, it will feature some changes over the Figo automatic as we knew it.

Firstly, the 1.5-litre petrol engine has been dropped, with the hatchback utilising a 96PS 1.2-litre unit instead. This will also ensure the Figo is eligible for tax benefits since it qualifies as a sub-4m vehicle with an engine capacity of less than 1200cc.

Also, instead of using a more budget-friendly AMT, Ford has decided to go with a proper automatic transmission -- the same 6-speed torque converter as the EcoSport. This will put the Figo a step ahead of its rivals such as the Hyundai Grand i10 Nios and Maruti Swift, which come with an AMT.

The Figo petrol retails from Rs 5.2 lakh to Rs 7.27 lakh (ex-showroom). We expect the Figo’s automatic variants to be priced at a premium of around a lakh over their manual counterparts.
