CFMoto is juggling multiple projects right now. The Chinese manufacturer is already working on the 2020 versions of the 650NK and the 400NK, which means the other variants will be updated as well. It’s also planning to add a 250cc faired motorcycle, a 700cc neo-retro motorcycle and an insane 1000cc naked motorcycle to its lineup. If this wasn’t enough, leaked images now reveal that the manufacturer is also working on a 1250cc touring motorcycle! That’s too many motorcycles in the making, CFMoto.
Although these are the first set of patent images, they show almost every tiny detail of the motorcycle in every possible angle. The motorcycle gets an entirely new design and it doesn’t look like the manufacturer has used the same template as the 650GT. The current models in CFMoto’s lineup are designed by Kiska, an Austrian firm responsible for designing KTMs as well. So it’s quite natural to expect that the company could’ve played a major role in designing the new tourer as well.
Apart from design, CFMoto and KTM work closely on the mechanical front as well. So the 1250cc engine that’s likely to power the upcoming touring motorcycle could be a downsized version of the 1301cc unit that’s seen on the KTM 1290 Adventure and Super Duke R. This motor in the current Super Duke R makes 176PS, but it’s highly unlikely that CFMoto will use the same state of tune. Instead, it could dial down the power to match the motorcycle’s touring character. Even if CFMoto reduces power, it would still be one of the most powerful motorcycles to come out of China! Moreover, the 2020 Super Duke R is just around the corner and will get a Euro 5-compliant motor, so it’s highly likely that CFMoto’s upcoming tourer might adhere to the new emission norms as well.
Additionally, CFMoto has a knack to plonk the same engine in a number of different motorcycles; it has done it with its 300cc, 400cc and 650cc lineup. So, there are chances that we might see a few more derivatives of the 1250 platform in the future.
As these are the first set of images hinting at a pre-production model, we don’t think it will make its debut at the upcoming EICMA, which is just weeks away. So, people of the internet, now that you’ve seen a new Chinese grand tourer, do you think it will pack enough punch to scare off established manufacturers like BMW Motorrad, Honda, Indian Motorcycles and Harley-Davidson?
