Have you seen the new Fiesta ST? Ford had released a teaser image and a short video of the car some time ago. The 2018 Fiesta ST will be making its world debut at the Geneva Motor Show this March. Till then, feast on the details Ford has revealed about the hotter version of the Fiesta hatchback.

The 2018 Ford Fiesta mostly retains the same design as the current Fiesta ST

The 2018 version of the Fiesta does not look much different from the current version. It, however, does away with the 1.6-litre four-cylinder turbocharged motor in favour of a 1.5-litre three-cylinder turbocharged unit. While the old unit made 199PS and 273Nm torque, the new, smaller unit makes 199PS power and a healthy 288Nm of torque. The engine has not just been downsized in capacity and cylinder count but also features cylinder deactivation(!). Under light loads, one of the three cylinders is shut down to save fuel. Ford says shutting down and restarting the cylinder takes just 14 milliseconds.

The Fiesta ST will come with a three-cylinder turbocharged engine

The 2018 Fiesta ST will come with multiple driving modes. These modes will alter the behaviour of the engine, steering, stability control and the exhaust system. Rounding up the enhancements to the new car are 18-inch wheels with all-new design and Liquid Blue exterior paint scheme. Inside, personalisation options will be offered on the car for gear shifter, steering wheel, dashboard and door pulls. The 2018 Fiesta ST will make use of Sync 3 infotainment system with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay. It will be paired to a Bang and Olufsen speaker system.

As far as market availability is concerned, the 2018 Ford Fiesta will head to Europe next year in three- and five-door body styles. Ford will make the details available about the car for other markets at a later date. Who knows if the Fiesta nameplate returns to India in the future and also gets a hotter version? Considering how Volkswagen brought the Polo GTI to India, there is a market for hot hatches in India. Also, the Fiesta nameplate, which vanished from India in 2016, was received warmly by enthusiasts. Perhaps bringing it back this time around will work in Ford's favour, just like launching the EcoSport did back in 2014.
