Fiat seems to have made up their mind to set many eyes rolling at the New York Auto Show this year. The 2015 Fiat 500 lineup cars will receive handful of new updates, including new display options and a newly optional automatic transmission for the 2015 Fiat 500 Abarth and Fiat 500 turbo models which were previously available only with a five-speed manual transmission.
Key changes to the 2015 Fiat 500 lineup models include a new main instrument cluster which will use a seven-inch TFT (Thin Film Transistor) display. In addition to its basic readout, it will offer multiple screen options including a parking screen on cars fitted with rear park assist as well as screens that display audio and telephone related information. The TFT screen will be standard on the 2015 Fiat 500 Sport, 2015 Fiat 500 Lounge, 2015 Fiat 500 Turbo, and the 2015 Fiat 500 Abarth models, and will be an option on the Pop.
Other interior upgrades include a redesigned center console with improved cupholders and an additional USB port as well as new Bluetooth streaming audio to complement the existing Bluetooth hands-free phone connectivity.
Fiat plans to broaden the appeal of its hatches and increase its sales by introducing the Aisin six-speed automatic transmission. The carmaker states that the automatic transmission has been reinforced with more clutch plates and a more robust heat treatment to allow for higher torque capability. Its Sport mode also features fuel-cut upshifts, rev-matching downshifts, brake-assist downshifts, corner gear hold and fast-off gear hold.
The updated models will be available in three new exterior paint colours – Giallo Moderna Perla (modern pearl yellow), Laser Blu (bright metallic blue), and Billet Argento (billet silver). The Fiat 500 Abarth is expected to hit the Indian markets around October this year.
