Features a 2-litre turbo petrol paired with a dual-clutch transmission
Expected to be priced from around Rs 50 lakh
The Volkswagen Tiguan was already one of the most appealing and well-packaged SUVs in India. But now, Volkswagen will be introducing something even more desirable, that is, the Tiguan R-Line. It is the new-generation version of the sophisticated SUV which will be introduced on our shores in the sportiest avatar on the 14th of April. Over its predecessor, it will boast a completely new design, more features and most importantly, more power.
Let’s take a look at its details:
Being the new-generation version, the Tiguan R-Line gets a completely different look. It comes in a new silhouette which clearly sets it apart from the outgoing model. The fascia features a gloss-black finish for the grille which is flanked by sleek LED headlights. It gets a chunky bumper that houses integrated air intakes and some chrome accents.

The R-Line sits on 19-inch alloy wheels that can be had in multiple styles. It sports a roof spoiler and a new design for the bumper with trapezoidal exhaust outlets with a chrome finish. It features sleek connected LED tail lights and large Tiguan lettering in the centre.

The interior comes with a tweaked design featuring a neat look for the dashboard. There are plenty of soft touch materials on the dashboard and door pads for a premium touch, and streaks of ambient lighting further elevate the overall experience. To add to the sportiness quotient, it gets a flat steering wheel. It also comes with silver inserts that act as a contrast to the overall dark theme.

The Tiguan R-Line will be loaded with plenty of features. The top ones include a 12.9-inch touchscreen, a 10.25-inch digital driver’s display, a panoramic sunroof, an 8-speaker audio system, a 3-zone automatic climate control, a power-adjustable driver's seat and 30-colour ambient lighting.
Passenger safety is taken care of by six airbags, electronic stability control (ESC), tyre pressure monitoring (TPMS), hill assist, hill descent control and a suite of ADAS features.
The Tiguan R-Line is powered by a 2-litre turbo-petrol engine which churns out 265 PS. The engine is mated to a 7-speed dual-clutch transmission. Compared to the outgoing model, there is a 75 PS increase in power.

The Tiguan R-Line is expected to be priced at around Rs 50 lakh (ex-showroom). The current regular Tiguan is priced at Rs 38.16 lakh (ex-showroom), so one can expect a significant price hike.
While the R-Line globally competes with the Kodiaq RS, it doesn't have any direct competitor in India. The regular Tiguan will compete against the Hyundai Tucson, Skoda Kodiaq and Citroen C5 Aircross.
While the Tiguan R-Line will be among the most exciting SUVs in terms of the package, its pricing could play a crucial role in deciding its success in India. What do you think should be the price? Let us know in the comments section.
