Good news for all the Volkswagen lovers or folks who want to upgrade to a premium German SUV! The Tiguan R-Line has been launched in India at Rs 49 lakh (ex-showroom). It is the new-generation model of the SUV in its sportier R-Line avatar, catering to the youth as well as families of up to 5 members. Bookings are open for the new Tiguan, and deliveries start from April 23. It will be offered on our shores as an imported, completely built unit (CBU).
Here’s your detailed look at the Tiguan R-Line:
The Volkswagen Tiguan R-Line has been launched on our shores at Rs 49 lakh (ex-showroom). This is a hefty price increase of more than Rs 10 lakh over the outgoing model which was priced at Rs 38.17 lakh.
The new Tiguan brings in a completely new design language, including a new silhouette and new styling elements, adding a more modern touch. The fascia features sleeker LED DRLs with a light bar running across the width of the front end. The blacked-out bumper adds a muscular look, while the ‘R’ badging adds exclusivity. The blacked-out elements are contrasted by chrome inserts.

The new-gen Tiguan sits on striking 19-inch alloy wheels. Gloss black wheel arches add to the sporty theme while chrome inserts surrounding the windows add a bit of bling. Roof rails further accentuate the stance of the SUV.

At the rear, it gets connected LED tail lights that add a modern touch. It sports three vertical lighting elements arranged horizontally. Chrome elements can also be seen on the bumper and on the Volkswagen emblem. We think it would be interesting if Volkswagen introduces an option of getting black elements instead of the chrome bits! The Volkswagen Tiguan R-Line has six monotone hues to opt from: Oryx White Mother Of Pearl Effect, Oyster Silver Metallic, Persimmon Red Metallic, Cipressiono Green Metallic, Nightshade Blue Metallic and Grenadilla Black Metallic.

The interior has been given a significant upgrade with the 15-inch infotainment system dominating the dashboard. The all-black cabin theme is in line with the sporty attributes of the Tiguan R-Line. Silver inserts throughout give the much-needed contrast while adding a premium touch.

Overall, the cabin is finished with premium materials and has a good blend of displays and physical buttons. The front row comes with sport seats with extra bolstering for added support, and the ‘R’ badging on the headrests adds to the overall experience.

No shortage in the features department. Apart from the large 15-inch touchscreen infotainment system, which supports wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, it also gets a 10.25-inch digital driver’s display.

Furthermore, it gets 30-colour ambient lighting, wireless phone charging, and a panoramic sunroof.

Safety features include 9 airbags, level-2 ADAS, ISOFIX child seat mounts, ABS with EBD, all four disc brakes, a tyre pressure monitoring system, electronic parking brake, and front and rear parking sensors.

The Tiguan R-Line is powered by the same engine which was offered with the outgoing model. It is the 2-litre turbo-petrol engine, which has now been tuned to generate more output - 204 PS and 320 Nm. The engine is paired with a 7-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission, which sends power to all four wheels.

The Tiguan R-Line will put up a fight against the likes of the Hyundai Tucson, Jeep Meridian, Citroen C5 Aircross, the upcoming 2025 Skoda Kodiaq and the popular Toyota Fortuner.
The Tiguan R-Line is the real Volkswagen SUV in every sense, and would particularly appeal to German car enthusiasts. While it enters a crowded SUV segment, it does have sportiness on its side, and that might attract buyers shopping for a premium SUV with a fun-to-drive nature.
