  • Prices for the Hyryder are likely to start from Rs 9.5 lakh (ex-showroom).

  • To be offered in four variants: E, G, S, and V, all but E will be available with the strong hybrid.

  • Claimed fuel efficiency for the strong hybrid is 27.97kmpl.

  • Features highlights include a sunroof, nine-inch touchscreen, ventilated front seats and a head-up display.

Toyota is gearing up for the price reveal of the Hyryder compact SUV next week. Bookings are already underway, and we were informed  that the strong-hybrid variants are in higher demand.

Under the hood of the Toyota Hyryder is a 1.5-litre petrol powertrain, offered with both mild and self-charging strong-hybrid technologies. The mild-hybrid powertrain is the same as seen on the Maruti Suzuki Brezza, with an output of 105PS. On the other hand, the strong-hybrid produces 116PS and returns a claimed fuel efficiency of 27.97kmpl. It even has a pure EV mode for the initial movements from stationary and very short distances at low speeds.

Transmission duties are carried out by a six-speed manual and automatic transmission for the mild-hybrid variants, while the strong-hybrid gets an e-CVT (single-speed transmission). The mild-hybrid manual variants of the Hyryder also get an all-wheel drivetrain option.

The Toyota Hyryder’s abounding list of features comprise a nine-inch infotainment system, connected car tech, head-up display, wireless charging, ventilated front seats, panoramic sunroof and a digital driver’s display. On the safety front, the compact SUV gets up to six airbags, ABS with EBD and a 360-degree camera.

Toyota could price the Hyryder from around Rs 9.5 lakh (ex-showroom). We expect the pricing of the entry-level strong-hybrid powertrain to fall just short of Rs 20 lakh on-road, making it the most affordable of its kind. The Hyryder will fend off competition from its cousin, the Maruti Grand Vitara, and other compact SUVs like the Hyundai Creta, Kia Seltos, MG Astor, Skoda Kushaq, and VW Taigun.
