The new Honda would be the ninth entrant in the crowded compact SUV space

  • Dealer-level pre-bookings for the Honda SUV are now open ahead of expected May debut.

  • To carry a bold look with rugged styling and a proper upright SUV stance.

  • Should feature a big touchscreen system, electric sunroof, ADAS and a 360-degree camera.

  • Should get a sole 1.5-litre petrol engine with the option of hybridization.

  • Prices expected to commence from around Rs 11 lakh (ex-showroom).

The pre-launch bookings for the new Honda SUV are now open at select dealerships, for a token amount of up to Rs 21,000. The upcoming compact SUV is likely to hit the showrooms for display by May, followed by a launch in the later months. Interestingly, we’ll be seeing a brand new Honda nameplate after six years!

The new Honda SUV will sport an upright stance with a bold profile and rugged styling. Spy shots show us sleek LED DRLs, LED headlamps, a split grille, roof rails, and a hunchback type rear profile. Its interior is also expected to have some unique styling elements with a minimalistic design, like new-age Honda models.

Just like the City, the compact SUV will be a feature-rich offering. It should be packed with niceties such as a big touchscreen system, connected car tech, wireless charger, electric sunroof, digital driver’s display, and ambient lighting. For safety, up to six airbags, ESC, traction control, and a 360-degree camera are expected on board.

The spy shots show the presence of a radar module, which further confirms ADAS (advanced driver assistance system). The safety package will feature lane-keep assist, automatic emergency braking, and adaptive cruise control.

Powering the new Honda SUV could be the City’s 1.5-litre i-VTEC petrol engine, which claims up to 122PS. The sedan’s hybrid counterpart will also lend its hybrid technology to the SUV. Manual and automatic transmissions for the petrol variants and an e-CVT (single speed transmission) for the hybrid will be offered.
