Kia has unveiled the 2026 Seltos in India with a bold redesign, a more modern cabin, and a significant upgrade in tech and features, signalling Kia’s intent to stay ahead of the competition. While the previous model was known for its sharp styling and driver-focused appeal, the latest version makes things better with improved features, space, and refinement. With all of these upgrades, the Seltos seems fully prepared to once again poke its long-standing rival, the Hyundai Creta, right where it hurts.
The Hyundai Creta has built on its own legacy right from its launch in 2014 as one of India’s most popular mid-size SUVs. It now comes with a more premium look, a richer set of features, and a cabin designed for everyday usability and comfort. This formula has always helped the Creta to remain a bestseller, while Hyundai silently keeps upgrading it with up-to-date features and safety kit. But is it all enough to defend against the new Seltos? Let’s find out:
The Kia Seltos and Hyundai Creta have been the closest rivals in the mid-size SUV segment, since they are very closely related to each other. They cater to a similar audience based on their design, road presence, and everyday usability. Despite the rivalry, both have a strong fanbase, and the public’s love for them hasn’t faded one bit.

The Seltos carries a more boxy, upright, and dominating stance with a completely redesigned front and rear profile, new headlights and taillights, body claddings, and 18-inch alloy wheels. The exterior of the Hyundai Creta, however, gets a robust design featuring connected LED DRLs, a prominent and upright square grille, and a chunky skid plate on the bumper. The rear also gets a connected LED taillight, which enhances the overall aesthetic of the car.

Here is a detailed comparison of their size:

The Seltos has grown in size, and it is clearly evident. In all dimensions, the Seltos is bigger with an appreciable margin, which means more space on the inside. The Creta is not bad either; it has always been known for its spacious cabin, but thanks to a new platform, the new Seltos easily wins this round.

On the inside, both cars offer a similar dashboard design. The Seltos’ dashboard looks more sporty with premium touches and the use of physical buttons, while the Creta continues to impress buyers with its plush theme. Grabbing the centre stage in both cars are dual-screen setups, but with different sizes. Both the screens on the Seltos measure 12.3-inches while the ones in Creta are a bit smaller at 10.25-inches each. Another difference to note is that the Seltos gets a three-spoke steering wheel and a 10-way electrically adjustable driver seat with lumbar support, while the Creta offers an 8-way electrically adjustable driver seat and a twin-spoke steering wheel.

Both the Seltos and Creta come with premium features like a panoramic sunroof, ventilated front seats, an 8-speaker BOSE sound system, dual-zone automatic climate control, ambient lighting, drive and traction modes, wireless phone connectivity with the infotainment screen, connected car tech, and rear window sunshades.

In terms of safety, both the cars come equipped with a Level-2 ADAS, a 360-degree camera with front and rear sensors, 6 airbags, electronic parking brake with auto-hold, all-wheel disc brakes, ABS with EBD, electronic stability control, hill-hold assist, tyre pressure monitoring system and impact sensing auto door unlock.
No points for guessing that both cars offer the same engine options. This list includes a 1.5-litre naturally aspirated petrol engine, a 1.5-litre turbocharged petrol engine, and a 1.5-litre diesel engine. These engines are available with manual, torque converter automatic, CVT, and DCT transmission options. Take a look at the table below for more details:
|

1.5-litre naturally aspirated petrol |
1.5-litre turbo-petrol |
1.5-litre diesel |

The only difference is that the 1.5-litre turbo petrol on the Seltos also comes with a 6-speed clutchless manual (iMT) option, while in the Creta, this engine can only be had in a 7-speed DCT.
The Seltos-Creta rivalry has always been one of the most talked-about comparisons in the mid-size SUV space. Prices for the new Kia Seltos have still not been released. A detailed pricelist will be released on January 2, 2026, after the official launch of the car. Prices for the Hyundai Creta, however, start at Rs 10.72 lakh (ex-showroom) and range till Rs 20.19 lakh (ex-showroom).
|
Model |
Price (ex-showroom) |
|
Kia Seltos |
Rs 11.2 - 22 lakh (EXPECTED) |
|
Hyundai Creta |
Rs 10.72 - 20.19 lakh |

It is difficult to pick the cheaper option of the two, but one thing is for sure: the pricing will be very competitive. Buyers will find themselves choosing between two equally compelling contenders.

Both the SUVs impress with their design, features, comfort, and overall appeal, making the Seltos-Creta rivalry hotter than ever. The new-gen Seltos brings sharper styling and a more driver-focused experience, while the Creta leans on with its softer suspension for enhanced comfort and a stronger and comparatively reliable brand value.
Buyers now have two equally compelling options, and the final choice will, however, come down to whether you prefer flair and sportiness or familiarity and everyday ease.
