Honda Beat Patented in India
Gets the same 110cc engine from Activa
Unlikely to launch in India
Honda has filed a new design patent for a two-wheeler in India, this time it is the Beat. The Honda Beat is a popular scooter in the Southeast Asian markets like Thailand and Indonesia.
The Honda Beat comes equipped with a traditional floorboard and is powered by the same 110cc engine found in the Activa, but with slightly higher output. It produces 9PS at 7,500rpm and 9.2Nm at 6,000rpm, delivering improved performance over the Activa, which makes 7.8PS at 8.000rpm and 8.9Nm at 5,500rpm.
As a premium scooter, the Beat offers a range of modern features, such as, keyless ignition, 14-inch alloy wheels, an anti-theft alarm, and an LED headlight. Its design includes a single seat, a practical grab rail, and a variety of color options in international markets.
The Honda Beat has a classic Southeast Asian scooter design with a step-through frame. Its headlight is built into the body, unlike Indian scooters where it's usually on the handlebars. The scooter's front and rear designs are also uniquely styled which gets sharper lines.
Over the past few years, Honda has registered quite a lot of models from much of its global portfolio in India. However, this doesn’t necessarily mean the scooter/bike will be launched in India. The brand is primarily securing design protection and intellectual property, and potentially positioning itself to manufacture these models locally for export to other countries.
Meaning despite the patent registration, the Beat is not expected to launch in India in the near future. Honda also recently patented another scooter in India, you can read about it here.
