Hero aims squarely at the Honda Hornet 2.0 and TVS Apache RTR 200 4V

Hero seems to be hard at work developing and testing a bunch of new products. Recently, a naked streetfighter with USD fork was spotted and it’s likely to be Xtreme 200R 4V. Interestingly, this is different to what we saw in its recent leaked design patent in which it was seen sporting a telescopic fork. With a four-valve head and USD fork, Hero can now go toe to toe with the Honda Hornet 2.0 and TVS Apache RTR 200 4V with more confidence.

In terms of design this test mule looks similar to the recently spied Xtreme 160R. However, the spy shots reveal that the Xtreme 200R 4V will feature all LED lighting, a digital, negative-LCD instrument console and a horizontally mounted air-oil cooler unlike the vertically mounted one on the Xpulse 200 twins.

On the Xpulse 200T 4V and Xpulse 200 4V the 199.6cc single cylinder motor makes 19.1PS and 17.3Nm, but we are hoping that Hero tweaks the performance of this engine to suit the Xtreme’s streetfighter format better.

Hero could even offer the Xtreme 200R 4V in both single and dual channel ABS, with the latter costing a bit more. In fact, we wouldn’t be surprised if Hero offers the Xtreme 200 in two variants itself - Xtreme 200 with telescopic fork and single-channel ABS and 200R with USD fork and dual-channel ABS.

We are expecting the Xtreme 200R 4V to be priced at around Rs 1.4 lakh ex-showroom onwards and could launch sometime around March 2024. With this pricing it will be more expensive than the Honda Hornet 2.0 - Rs 1.36 lakh and a bit more affordable than the TVS Apache RTR 200 4V (dual-channel ABS) - Rs 1.45 lakh (all prices ex-showroom Delhi).
