Don’t expect over-the-top changes as this is expected to be a mild update, limited to cosmetics

  • Changes should include refreshed bumpers, grille design, and probably larger alloy wheels.
  • Inside, it could get new upholstery and revised colour scheme.
  • No new features expected in the facelifted Wagon R.
  • Engines to be carried forward without any changes.

According to our sources, Maruti Suzuki could launch the facelifted Wagon R as early as February 2022. It will be the first update for the tall boy hatch and is under Maruti’s massive eight launches plan for this year.

That said, don’t expect changes to be over-the-top as what is seen in the Baleno. Rather, the Wagon R is expected to get revised bumpers and grille design to keep things fresh. The hatch could also get larger 15-inch alloy wheels as seen in the new Celerio. At last, the hatch could get refreshed body colours as well.

Inside, changes are likely to be limited to new upholstery and probably a revised interior colour scheme. The feature list should remain the same, which includes a 7-inch touchscreen infotainment system with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, manual AC, power windows, remote locking, and a multi-info display.

Passenger safety should be taken care of by dual airbags, ABS with EBD, and rear parking sensors. The AMT variants also come with hill start assist.

No changes will be made under the hood, and the facelifted Wagon R will continue with the 68PS 1-litre and 83PS 1.2-litre petrol engines, both paired with a 5-speed manual and AMT. The CNG option is limited to the 1-litre motor, while a manual transmission is limited only to the base-spec LXI trim.

The facelifted Wagon R will command a few extra bucks over the current model (Rs 5.18 lakh onwards) when it goes on sale. It will renew its rivalry with the Tata Tiago, Hyundai Santro, and its sibling, the Celerio
