Mercedes-Benz India is about to rock the electric vehicle market in the country with its brand-new CLA with EQ Technology. The launch of this baby Mercedes EV is around the corner, and you must definitely be curious about what it has to offer. Before you make the decision to write that juicy cheque, take a look at the pros and cons of the new Mercedes-Benz CLA with EQ Technology.
Pros:
The baby Benz, the CLA-Class, has been on sale for more than a decade now and has had two generations since. Now, both these gens were extremely gorgeous cars with a swooping, coupe-like roofline, and the third-generation doesn’t disappoint on that front. If you want a small luxury car that grabs eyeballs like nobody else’s business, the CLA with EQ Tech will not disappoint at all.

There are two new colours on offer with the third-gen CLA – Red and Blue, and both adeptly suit the lines of the car. There’s also a grey, which surprisingly looks good too.
Cons:
Now, since the CLA-Class has always been the smallest sedan Mercedes-Benz offers, the interior space takes a big hit. So it’s not surprising that rear seat space also remains an Achilles heel for the third-gen model too.
In addition to the lack of space, the new CLA with EQ Tech’s backseat also lacks a proper comfort quotient. Taller passengers can sit in the back seat for short distances in okay-ish comfort, but the CLA is best enjoyed in the driver’s seat. Ultimately, the new electric CLA is mainly for self-driven owners.

While Mercedes-Benz has given a space saver, to save space (as the name suggests), it severely hampers usable boot space in the new CLA EV. You might probably be better off with a puncture repair kit if you intend to take it on a long journey.

The new CLA with EQ Tech is a tech fest in every sense of the word. It comes with ChatGPT 4 artificial intelligence support, making responses from the virtual assistant better.
The 14-inch infotainment touchscreen also supports built-in smart navigation that is interestingly based on Google Maps, so you get real-time traffic information.

The 64-colour ambient lighting will elevate your cabin experience at night, making it a star-studded experience (pun intended).

There’s so much tech in the new CLA with EQ Tech that it demands a separate story.
The new CLA is also one of the safest vehicles you can buy. Euro NCAP tested the car in 2025, and it was its highest-rated car in 2025.
It gets ADAS too, and it is relatively India-friendly to use. Nice touch, Mercedes!
Pros:
The new CLA with EQ Tech, like all EVs, is supremely quick thanks to all the torque being available right from the start. And being an EV, it is also quite smooth to drive.

Regenerative braking is another strong suit of the new CLA EV, and it has been calibrated really well.
Cons:
Since it’s an electric sedan, the ground clearance takes a hit, and it can be an issue over larger speed breakers.
Pros:
Thanks to the 85.5 kWh battery, the new CLA with EQ Tech comes with a claimed range of 792 km. However, the real-world range is close to 700 km, making it one of the longest-range EVs on sale in India.

Thanks to 240 kW DC fast charging, adding a range of 400 km in just 20 minutes seems like a boon if you’re out on a long journey.
The new Mercedes-Benz CLA with EQ Tech is expected to launch in the coming weeks, and we expect it to cost around Rs 65 lakh (ex-showroom) for the sole CLA 250+ variant that’ll be on sale in India.

While the only direct rival to the CLA with EQ Tech will be the BYD Seal, it will also face competition from the Kia EV6, Volvo EC40, and MINI Countryman Electric.
The third-gen Mercedes-Benz CLA, currently only offered as an EV, is sure to attract a lot of customers through its swanky design, extremely long range, large battery, fast charging and a plethora of future-ready tech. However, the CLA EV could dissuade buyers who are looking to be chauffeur-driven due to the lack of space in the rear seat.
