The new Alto will debut on August 18.
Undisguised spy shots show that it is bigger than the outgoing Alto
The cabin will also receive a complete overhaul and get premium touches, new features.
Likely to continue with the 800cc engine; 1-litre engine could also be on offer.
Expect auto idle-start stop to be offered as standard to improve fuel efficiency
If the 1-litre engine is inbound, then it should also get a 5-speed AMT.
Maruti’s next launch will be the new generation model of the Alto hatchback on August 18. The hatchback is all set to receive a complete overhaul, with updated engines, more features and bigger dimensions.
The 2022 Alto was recently spied uncamouflaged and thus most of its exterior styling was revealed. It looks much larger and stylish than the outgoing Alto, being based on Maruti’s HEARTECT platform.

Certain visual elements on the car seem inspired by the new Celerio, such as the tail lamps, to such an extent that it actually looks like a smaller version of the Celerio. It should also get new colour options, as we’ve seen the hatch in Celerio’s red and blue shades.
The interior will also be revamped with more premium touches and new features. While it’s already equipped with features such as a 7-inch touchscreen infotainment system, Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, dual airbags, and rear parking sensors, we could see some additions in the form of ESP and hill-hold assist (only for AMT variants).

The new Alto will continue to be one of the few 800cc models on sale. But the Celerio’s 1-litre petrol engine is likely to be on offer as well. While the Celerio’s engine already offers Suzuki’s DualJet technology and idle start-stop feature for improved fuel efficiency, expect these tech to be offered with the 800cc engine as well.
We’re also expecting the convenience of a 5-speed AMT in addition to a manual transmission for the bigger engine. Like the outgoing Alto, the new model will also get the option of a CNG.

The Maruti Alto 800 currently retails from Rs 3.39 lakh to Rs 5.03 lakh (ex-showroom). The new generation will command a premium and is expected to be priced from around Rs 3.5 lakh (ex-showroom) onwards. It will renew its rivalry with the Renault Kwid.
