VinFast cars are coming to India sooner than you would have expected, with the VF7 being their first SUV to be launched on our shores, during the upcoming festive season. Operations at the Vietnamese carmaker’s first manufacturing plant, located in Thoothukudi in Tamil Nadu, have begun, and that’s great news for the Indian automotive industry.
The plant has a production capacity of 1.5 lakh units per year and will employ up to 3,500 people. The popular global automaker has already invested Rs 4,000 crore in the manufacturing plant, and has planned to invest Rs 16,000 more in the future.

So without further ado, let’s take a look at VinFast’s first SUV on our shores, the VF7…
The VF7 looks like it was designed with a lot of thought! It's sporty but not too in the face, it's stylish and upbeat but not very polarising. Its proportions are squat and wide, and it comes with signature VinFast styling that catches your attention and will make most Indians wonder which brand this is. A tip for you to remember that it's a VinFast: Just take a look at the stretched-out ‘V’ and you will know that it belongs to the Vietnamese carmaker.

Bits like flush door handles add a sense of premiumness, and the rear end’s sleek and sporty design with subtle chrome inserts catch your attention.
Coming to the interior, you will notice the minimalist theme and appreciate the sophisticated dual-tone theme. The dashboard has a more driver-focused layout, and you also get many silver inserts throughout the cabin to break the dual-tone scheme. There are well-executed storage spaces as well for your knick-knacks. The 537-litres of boot space is something that not just you, but even your family will appreciate during those long road trips or IKEA runs.

Top features include a 12.9-inch touchscreen, 8-way powered driver’s seat, head-up display, panoramic sunroof, and ventilated front seats. Safety is taken care of by level-2 ADAS, an electronic parking brake, an auto-dimming rear-view mirror, multiple airbags, and a 360-degree camera.
The VF7 gets a 70.8 kWh battery pack, available in FWD and AWD trims. The FWD system comes with a single motor that makes 201 PS and 310 Nm, while the AWD variant gets dual motors that churn out 354 PS and 500 Nm. In the top-spec trim, the VF7 takes just 5.8 seconds to go from 0-100 kmph, which is impressive considering that this is a full-size SUV. Moreover, you also get fast-charging with speeds of up to 150 kW. Details about its claimed range are yet to be disclosed.

The VF7 is a completely fresh product and sporty in its own unique way. It has the specs that it needs for success, and it brings a personality that will attract customers. With local assembly, VinFast will look to price their cars at a competitive range, and we expect the VF7 to be offered at somewhere around the Rs 50 lakh mark (ex-showroom). So while the VF7 looks exciting on paper, it all comes down to how it's priced.

Let us know in the comments what you think about the VF7.
