In a market gradually warming to luxury EVs, Mercedes-Benz has chosen to mark the moment with a special edition of its flagship electric sedan, the EQS 580 4MATIC Celebration Edition. Limited to 50 units and priced at Rs 1.30 crore (ex-showroom), this edition focuses less on performance upgrades and more on improving the experience for those not holding the steering wheel.
The changes in the Celebration Edition are not mechanical. Instead, they revolve almost entirely around the rear seats, a nod to the car’s target demographic. In chauffeur-driven setups, Mercedes seems to have identified space and comfort as key battlegrounds.
The changes in the Celebration Edition are not mechanical. Instead, they revolve almost entirely around the rear seats, a nod to the car’s target demographic. In chauffeur-driven setups, Mercedes seems to have identified space and comfort as key battlegrounds.
Highlights include:
Executive-style rear seats that recline up to 38 degrees.
Multi-contour massage functions and extended thigh support.
Chauffeur Package that allows the front passenger seat to tilt forward for added rear legroom.
Full Nappa leather upholstery, illuminated belt buckles, and subtle chrome trim.
There’s also the regular tech and feature suite: MBUX Hyperscreen, MBUX AR navigation, and rear-axle steering come as standard. These features, while already part of the EQS portfolio, make their way into this edition unchanged.
Mechanically, the Celebration Edition of the EQS 580 sticks with the same setup as the standard 580 4MATIC:
Dual motors producing 543 PS and 858 Nm
0–100 kmph in 4.3 seconds
107 kWh Battery Pack with a range of 813 km (ARAI)
DC fast charging support up to 200 kW
There’s no performance bump or special tuning to distinguish this limited-run model from the regular EQS 580 on the road.
Mercedes-Benz says the Celebration Edition commemorates the growing success of its top-end EV lineup in India, and there is data to support that claim.
As of May 2025, the brand reports a 73 percent year-on-year growth in its battery electric vehicle (BEV) portfolio, driven largely by high-end models like the EQS sedan and SUV, the EQS Maybach, and the G-Class Electric. The momentum is clearly there, especially in a segment that, until recently, was more experimental than mainstream.
That said, the Celebration Edition itself is not an entirely new product. It’s best described as a factory-curated configuration of the EQS 580, bundling several rear-seat-focused options, like the Executive Rear Seat Package, Chauffeur Package, and massage functionalities, into one unified, limited-run trim. Many of these features have long been available through the brand’s optional customisation services.
The Mercedes-Benz EQS Celebration Edition is not exactly reinventing the EV luxury formula, but it does tell us how brands like Mercedes-Benz are experimenting with their idea of value, especially in the back seat. The limited-edition label adds exclusivity while enhancing comfort in the rear seats, for a segment which is particularly curated for the backseat experience.
