- Maybe yes it is so powerful but I will upgrade it to z900
- Yes, Kawasaki Ninja 650 is a good choice. The new Z650 BS6 changes that to a small extent. It now looks meaner and offers premium features to justify the extra price over its BS4 predecessor. The powertrain now feels more engaging as does handling. Overall, the new Z650 BS6 feels significantly sportier than before and definitely more desirable. The tradeoff though is the firm ride that makes living with the new bike bit challenging but nevertheless an exciting affair. If you are up for it, the Z650 should be your perfect stepping stone to bigger motorcycles in the future. Moreover, we would suggest you to take a test ride before making the final decision. Kawasaki Z650 FAQs
Z650 Key Highlights
Price: The 2027 Kawasaki Z650 S is priced at Rs 7.59 lakh. The older-gen Z650 is priced at Rs 7.26 lakh, making the Z650 S Rs 33,000 more expensive.
Design: The Z650 S features Kawasaki's signature Sugomi design, with a crouched stance, a low-set front end and an upswept tail section. Its wider bodywork, muscular tank shrouds, aluminium radiator cover and metallic accents give it a more aggressive appearance. The motorcycle also gets modern LED lighting at both ends, while its wider handlebar and revised riding position distinguish it from the regular Z650. The older-gen Z650 has the same design, but with slightly different tank extensions and headlight design.
Features: The Z650 S gets a 4.3-inch colour TFT instrument console with smartphone connectivity (which was missing in the older-gen model). Riders can access vehicle information and riding logs on their smartphones, while incoming call and mail notifications can be displayed on the instrument panel when connected. The motorcycle also features Kawasaki Traction Control (KTRC), which helps manage rear-wheel slip.
Engine: The motorcycle is powered by a 649cc, liquid-cooled, parallel-twin engine with a DOHC, eight-valve setup. It produces 68PS at 8,000rpm and 64Nm at 6,700rpm, with power delivered through a six-speed gearbox with an assist and slipper clutch.
Suspension, Brakes & Other Details: The Z650 S uses a tubular diamond frame and a lightweight swingarm. Suspension duties are handled by a 41mm telescopic fork at the front and a linked rear monoshock. Braking hardware includes dual front discs with dual-piston calipers and a single rear disc with a single-piston caliper with dual channel ABS. While the older version used petal discs, this one uses conventional rotors. The motorcycle rides on 17-inch wheels with 120/70 ZR17 front and 160/60 ZR17 rear tyres. Both Z650 S and the older-gen Z650 have the same 130mm ground clearance, but the Z650S has revised seat cushioning, resulting in a taller 805mm seat as opposed to the older Z’s 790mm seat. The fuel tank capacity remains the same at 15 litres, but the kerb weight has gone up from 188kg to 193kg.
Rivals: It belongs to the middleweight naked motorcycle segment, where buyers may also consider the Triumph Trident 660. Compared to the 2025 Z650, the Z650 S is a more aggressively styled iteration of the same basic motorcycle rather than an entirely new platform. Its higher price will appeal most to buyers who prefer the revised looks and riding position.
