Maintaining steady speeds while driving

Maintaining a steady speed or cruising at higher gears and lower engine revolutions per minute such as, 2500 – 3500 RPM (RPM Meter located in the Instrument Console at the drivers seat behind the steering-wheel), is the best way to get a phenomenal fuel efficiency figure from your everyday car as less fuel is burnt and all of the burnt fuel is put to good use to maintain the momentum of the car.

To sustain a steady speed, one needs to have a light foot on the accelerator and the brakes, as jerks and engine knocks at low RPMs are not a desirable act for good fuel efficiency. Avoid quick starts in the first two gears as they guzzle fuel that you have been saving by driving at cruiser speeds. Aggressive breaking also subconsciously leads to having a heavy foot on the accelerator which has a negative effect on fuel efficiency. Personal and pedestrian safety is ensured to a great extent as you are maintaining a speed that you can break at any given point of your journey.
