A good-quality, safe riding jacket is a must not only for enthusiasts like us but also for everyone who rides a two-wheeler. Recently, the team at Raida sent us their Frigate riding jacket for testing. The jacket costs Rs 8,999, and for the price it does tick all the right boxes. After using it for a week, here are my first impressions.
The motorcycle apparel market is flooded with various brands offering diverse designs, but the Raida Frigate jacket stands out with its minimalist styling, which will likely appeal to a broader audience. It uses abrasion resistant polyester fabric along with a soft neoprene trim around the collar. The jacket is all-black with white and grey 3M reflectors on top, near the chest, and below the arms. Additionally, it features premium Raida branding on the front and lower back. Overall, the Frigate jacket looks quite impressive.
The Raida Frigate is available in sizes ranging from extra-small to 7XL. Although the protectors make the jacket slightly heavier overall, it remains quite comfortable to wear. The jacket lacks dedicated ventilation ducts, but the material allows for good airflow while riding, enhancing comfort. Adjustable straps on the waist, cuffs, and arms enable customization of the fit. Additionally, the Frigate jacket features pre-curved arms, designed to provide comfort during longer rides.
The Frigate Jacket features CE Level 2 armor for the shoulders, elbows, back, and chest. The protectors are perfectly positioned, and the jacket doesn't feel bulky. Additionally, the jacket includes external metal sliders on the shoulders for enhanced protection.
The jacket features two external pockets with zips to keep valuables safe. Internally, the jacket includes a document pocket and a mobile pocket. The Raida Frigate comes with a rain jacket and a thermal liner. The rain jacket is designed to be worn over the riding jacket, while the thermal liner is intended to be worn underneath.
Initially, the Raida Frigate riding jacket makes a positive impression. It fits true to its size without any loose areas. Even while sitting on the motorcycle it does not bunch around the waist area which makes it look snug. The overall length of the jacket is also good enough as it does not lift whenever I lean forward. Other than that, its minimalist design is visually appealing, and the jacket is comfortable to wear. It also comes with useful accessories and ample storage. However, we have yet to conduct long-term testing of the Raida Frigate jacket. Once done, we'll post a comprehensive review after two months, providing our final verdict.
