Kia has added a more powerful 1.5-litre turbo-petrol engine in the Seltos. How does it fare in terms of performance with the VW Taigun, the next most powerful SUV in its segment?

In this edition of the Zig performance report, we line up the facelifted Kia Seltos and Volkswagen Taigun. The former now gets a more powerful 1.5-litre turbo-petrol engine that makes headlining numbers in its segment. How does it stand in terms of performance when pitched against the Volkswagen Taigun GT, which has been the quickest in its segment?

Both models have an engine capacity of 1.5-litres, however, the Seltos’ unit is 10PS and 3Nm more powerful than the Taigun. One point to note is that the Seltos gets a clutchless manual (iMT) as opposed to the proper 6-speed manual offered with the VW. That said, in this test, we’ll be comparing the automatic variants of both the models.

As seen in the table above, the Kia Seltos is the quicker model in the 0-100kmph acceleration test, beating the Taigun by a whisker 0.8 seconds. Even in the roll-on acceleration test, the Seltos’ more powerful engines helped it to edge out the Taigun by 0.9 seconds.
