Volvo has started the ‘Volvo Sustainable Mobility’ award. The programme invites individuals, groups, organisation and institutes who are working towards creating innovative solutions in the area of supporting sustainable transport in cities. The objective of the Volvo Sustainable Mobility programme is to highlight the need to develop effective urban transport for the ever growing Indian city.

Akash Passey, Managing Director & CEO, Volvo Buses in South Asia said, “Urban transport is a fast evolving model in India. Efforts by the Central and state governments, have been actively supported by various interest groups in a bid to attract people to shift to public transport. This award is an attempt by Volvo Buses to recognise efforts of groups and individuals who have gone beyond the convention and have come up with innovative ideas to improve the urban transport systems in India. At Volvo, we are committed to bring about change that benefits the society and make better the lives of people in urban centres. We hope that this initiative will spur people to come up with more ideas to make urban transport in India as good as in other countries.”
The last date for registering entries is August 30th 2011 and the last date for submitting project details is on the 1st of September 2011. The project can have a maximum of 25 pages of content in relation to the project. It should be clearly divided into chapters in the necessary steps present. Any achievements in relation to the project that have been acquired should be mentioned. The boidata/profile of the individuals in the group as well as of the group itself. The scoring on the projects will be done on the following criteria:
• Innovativeness of the idea
• Practical implementation or level of engagement with society
• Achievement or potential impact of the initiative
Volvo looks forward to unique concepts at the time of short listing entries for the award. Emphasis will be given to viable ideas that can be implemented in the near future. The jury that will select the finalists will consist of academicians, stakeholders and eminent people from the industry.
