Tata Motors has launched a new second-from-base variant of the Tiago, XT (O), at Rs 5.48 lakh. It’s based on the mid-spec XT and undercuts it by Rs 15,000, however, it is Rs 48,000 dearer than the base-spec XE.
Here’s where the new variant stands in the Tiago lineup:

The Tiago XT (O) and XT have a near-identical feature list, however, the former misses out on a 2-DIN infotainment system that comes standard in the XT. That said, Tata has equipped the XT (O) variant with four Harman speakers and steering-mounted audio controls.

So, the Rs 15,000 difference can be used to invest in an aftermarket head unit. This is a no-brainer considering a decent branded aftermarket touchscreen infotainment system with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto retails for a similar price. That said, only select head units sold as Tata’s official accessories will be compatible with the steering-mounted audio controls.

This variant also features a digital instrument display, front and rear power windows, manual air-con, central locking, electronically adjustable ORVMs, and a multi-info display. Passenger safety is taken care of by dual airbags, ABS with EBD, and rear parking sensors.
The XT (O) retains the standard model’s 86PS 1.2-litre petrol engine that drives the front wheels. However, it’s offered only with a 5-speed manual gearbox, with the optional 5-speed AMT limited to the higher variants.

Tata’s entry-level hatch takes on the likes of the Maruti Suzuki Wagon R, Maruti Suzuki Celerio, and Hyundai Santro.
