Waiting period for the Thar is currently up to 11 months.
The Thar offers multiple factory-fitted roof options.
It gets a 2.2-litre diesel and a 2.0-litre turbo-petrol engine.
Transmission options include 6-speed manual and automatic gearboxes.
It is currently priced from Rs 12.10 lakh to Rs 14.15 lakh.
Mahindra announced that the second iteration of the iconic Thar has received over 50,000 bookings within only six months of its launch on October 2, 2020.
With the new Thar, Mahindra hopes to make the off-roader more family-friendly and not just an adventure enthusiast’s favourite. And if the sales figures and 11-month-long waiting periods are anything to go by, it seems that the carmaker has succeeded in its ploy. However, the persisting global shortage of semiconductors has thrown a spanner in the works, crippling deliveries of multiple models that have been sitting at dealerships without the central display.
The new Thar comes with a bunch of firsts, including multiple factory-fitted roof options and a touchscreen infotainment system. The SUV gets a 130PS 2.2-litre diesel engine and a 150PS 2.0-litre turbo-petrol engine. Power is sent to all four wheels via either a 6-speed manual transmission or a 6-speed automatic transmission.
The Thar’s off-road prowess is courtesy of its low-range transfer case, locking differential, and a standard 4x4 drive. Mahindra has also done away with its base-spec variant and the side-facing-seat layout.

The Thar is currently priced from Rs 12.10 lakh to Rs 14.15 lakh (ex-showroom). While it doesn’t have any direct rival as of now, it will soon, thanks to the upcoming Maruti Suzuki Jimny and BS6 Force Gurkha.
