Vespa's New Rs 10.8 Lakh Scooter Isn't Meant For Commuting!

The Piaggio Ape has sold over 19 lakh units in the last 15 years, since it was first introduced. To further strengthen the diesel powered three wheeler’s popularity, the Italian automobile company has given it a makeover and launched the Piaggio Ape Xtra DLX priced at Rs 1.74 lakh ex-showroom, Maharashtra.
The changes on the new Piaggio Ape Xtra DLX include slight redesign with stronger sheet metal, new headlamps, a better looking dashboard along with new handlebar switch. Moreover, the company has worked to the Piaggio Ape Xtra Dlx’s paint treatment for added gloss and better colour retention, as well as higher rust prevention which is said to give the vehicle a longer life. The company also boasts that Ape offers a fuel efficiency of 36-38 kmpl.
Speaking during the launch Stefano Pelle, CEO of Piaggio India Pvt. Ltd. (PVPL ) said, “Anticipating our new age customer’s needs, Ape Xtra Dlx has been conceived as a modern, stylish vehicle with many new features and yet delivering its core values of exceptional reliability, fuel efficiency and comfort.”
The Piaggio Ape Xtra DLX will be manufactured at the company’s plant located in Baramati, Maharashtra, with an annual production capacity of over 3 lakh three-wheelers and 80,000 four-wheelers. Currently PVPL exports another version of the ape’ series called the ape’ City to international markets including Nigeria, Sri Lanka and soon Ape Xtra DLX will be exported as well.
