Maruti Suzuki has started accepting bookings for its upcoming XL6 MPV. Slated for launch on August 21, Maruti is pitching the Ertiga-based MPV as a premium offering and a better rival to the likes of the Mahindra Marazzo and Renault Lodgy Stepway. The XL6 will be sold through the Nexa chain of dealerships and will be available in two variants, details of which are still under wraps.

Based on the Ertiga’s fifth-generation Heartect platform, the XL6 is a more luxurious take on the MPV. Exclusive features over the Ertiga include quad-chamber LED headlamps, captain seats for the second row, all-black interiors and cruise control. It also gets the SmartPlay Studio with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.

There is a long list of standard safety features like dual front airbags, ABS with EBD, front seatbelts with pretensioners and force limiters, ISOFIX, hill hold assist, ESP (Electronic Stability Program), high speed warning alert, driver/co-driver seatbelt reminder and reverse parking sensors.

Powering the XL6 is the Ertiga’s 1.5-litre Smart Hybrid motor which makes 105PS and 138Nm of torque. As we speculated, Maruti is not offering a diesel power plant for the upcoming XL6. However, an automatic transmission option will be offered on both the variants, alongside the 5-speed manual gearbox. Considering the added features, the XL6 is expected to carry a premium and priced from Rs 9.5 lakh to 10.5 lakh (ex-showroom Delhi).
