Hyundai’s ‘HyBuy’ Wants To Gamify Car Purchasing

Book your car online, have friends join in, get goodies. Simple.

Gamification. It's a word we don't use too often, do we? Well, Hyundai is banking on exactly that to boost its already strong sales. Called 'HyBuy', the online initiative banks on you wanting that thoda zyaada from the sales deal, and gives it to you if you refer your friends.

"HyBuy is based on 3 main pillars – Simple, Caring and Creative," reads a release issued by the manufacturer. Like most parts of our lives, car buying is shifting into the digital realm. HyBuy requires one to log on to their website (, deposit a token and avail benefits "over and above the current market offer." The more the people sign up, the better the rewards get. Hyundai says that the campaign will be up and running for a limited period of time, and for a fixed number of 300 Elite i20 cars.

At the time of publishing this report, only three out of three hundred cars have been reserved. The "benefits" are as follows:

Puneet Anand, senior general manager (marketing) & group head, Hyundai India, said: “The time is right as Digital India is growing incrementally.  Hyundai always strives to set industry benchmarks and offer unique experiences to customers adding ‘Brilliant Moments’ to their lives. HyBuy is the most innovative and unique digital initiative in the auto industry. It is aimed to redefine car buying journey of customers and support the futuristic mass movement of government’s ‘Digital India’.”

Now, Hyundai believes HyBuy is a "way of giving the ‘Power To The People’ and adding the essence of gamification to engage customers." While that's true, we're pretty sure you will be able to eke out a better deal from the dealership with some good old fashioned negotiation. Of course, you won't manage to get a Singapore or a Dubai trip out of it. But hey, you don't have to wait for 299 others to buy a car to have a shot at it either.
