Could get the same configuration as the current Grand i10 CNG

  • Nios to be a part of Hyundai’s plans to expand its CNG lineup.
  • Could come with CNG under the ‘Magna’ variant for personal use.
  • Expect similar power figures as the Grand i10 CNG.
  • It is expected to rival other CNG models like the Maruti Suzuki Celerio and WagonR.

When Hyundai recently launched the third generation of its i10 hatchback, the Grand i10 Nios, many were anticipating whether the new hatchback will get a CNG trim like its predecessor. That did not happen; however, there is some good news as Hyundai is all set to introduce this variant in the new hatchback soon.

We expect the Grand i10 Nios CNG to be offered in the same ‘Magna’ petrol variant as its predecessor. Expect the Nios CNG to get similar power figures and transmission options as the Grand i10 CNG. Hyundai currently offers the Grand i10 Prime and the Xcent Prime variants equipped with CNG for commercial use. Meanwhile, private buyers can choose the Santro and the Grand i10 with CNG in the Magna variants.

With carmakers pushing for greener mobility and the stricter upcoming emission and CAFE norms, CNG cars seem to be a more viable solution at the moment. Maruti enjoys a monopoly in the CNG market with its own dedicated lineup consisting of four hatchbacks and an MPV. Hyundai is now looking to join the CNG party with plans to have its entire hatchback lineup, aside from the Elite i20, on offer with a CNG trim for personal use in the future.

The Grand i10 Nios is currently sold in the price range between Rs. 5.00 lakh - 7.99 lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi) in 10 variants and 8 color options. Once the Nios CNG is offered for private use, expect it to get a similar price jump like the Grand i10 CNG ‘Magna’ variant that comes at a price tag of Rs 6.39 lakh (ex-showroom Delhi). Expect the new hatchback to compete against CNG rivals like the Maruti Suzuki Celerio and the WagonR in the Indian market.
