Delhi odd-even rule: 100 E-bikes distributed for free by Hero Electric

In action from the first day of New Year, road users in Delhi witnessed the implementation of the odd-even rule for cars, where on even dates only cars with license plates ending with an even number will be allowed on city roads, and on odd dates cars with license plates ending with an odd number will be allowed. With the new rule, people of Delhi are searching for alternatives for commuting within the city. To answer the problem faced by people, Hero Electric has started a complimentary free service by appointing 100 E-bikes across different locations of the city.

The courtesy service initiated by Hero Electric -- inaugurated under the name 'Free and Clean Ride' -- was the answers to need of transportation for people of Delhi who at the same time completely abides with the odd-even rule. The new initiative was flagged off by Satyendra Kumar Jain, Minister of Health and Industry, Delhi, and Sohinder Gill, CEO Hero Electric, on 1st January, 2016.  100 E-bikes will be distributed equally across 15 strategic locations of the city. The service will be provided at free of charge to the commuters as the state conducts trials of the odd-even rule.

Speaking on the new initiative, Sohinder Gill, CEO, Hero Electric said, "The idea is to help office goers and general commuters to experience the joy & comfort of zero polluting Electric bikes and also get to know the advantages of switching over to Electric Mobility."

Hero Electric has stated in an official statement that, it will position 5-10 E-bikes with a rider at public transport points like Metro stations and major bus terminals. The E-bikes will be available for free ride during peak rush hour timings – 8am to 12pm and 4pm to 8pm. Commuters can hitchhike a ride from transport terminals to their offices on the E-bikes. The Hero Electric E-bike rider will be dressed in unique uniforms making it easier to bring people’s attention.

In the current scenario two wheelers are one of the biggest contributors to the air pollution in Delhi. E-bikes are the most eco-friendly alternative to put an end to emissions as a single electric bike helps to reduce one ton of CO2 in a span of three years, as the company’s official statement reiterated.
