Jaguar India is accepting bookings for the diesel variants of the XE sedan. Until now, the entry-level Jaguar was only available with the 2.0-litre four-cylinder petrol engine. But, the sedan will soon be available with a 2.0-litre diesel engine. Bookings can be made via any of the 24 authorised Jaguar retailers in India by paying a token amount of Rs 2 lakh.

The 2.0-litre diesel engine in the XE produces 180PS of power and 430Nm of torque and is the same engine which also powers the XF and the F-Pace. Power is sent to the rear wheels via Jaguar's eight-speed automatic gearbox. For reference, the petrol engine is available in a 200PS/320Nm tune with the Pure and Prestige variants and in a 240PS/340Nm tune in the Portfolio variant.

It's no surprise that a lot of car buyers in the country still prefer a diesel-powered luxury sedan. With the XE diesel, there's no denying that Jaguar India will attract a larger audience. The baby Jag will go up against the likes of the C-Class, 3-Series, A4 and the Volvo S60 in the country. Expect the Jaguar XE diesel to carry a price tag of around Rs 42-45 lakh, and an official launch later this month.
PS: In case diesel Jags aren't your thing and you prefer a fast petrol saloon (preferably from Scandanavia) - check out the gorgeous S60 Polestar from Volvo!
