Audi India's First Long-range EV, e-tron, To Be Showcased On June 25

• Likely to launch in India by November end at an expected price of around Rs 1.50 crore.
• Power output stands at 360PS and 0-100kmph comes up in 6 seconds.
• The 95kWh battery gives it a range of 400km, and can be charged from 0 to 80 per cent in 30 minutes.
• ORVMs are replaced by cameras for improved aerodynamics.

Audi India is all set to showcase its first all-electric SUV, the e-tron on June 25. Expected to launch by the end of this year, the e-tron SUV will be Audi’s first all-electric vehicle on our shores. The e-tron SUV is built at Audi’s CO2 neutral factory in Brussels, Belgium and will be imported in as a CBU. It is expected to get a hefty price tag close to Rs 1.50 crore (ex-showroom Delhi).

The Audi e-tron SUV is powered by two electric motors, at the front and back. Churning out a combined output of 360PS, the Audi e-tron can do 0-100kmph in six seconds. It also has a boost mode where the electric motors churn out an additional 48PS and reduce the 0-100kmph time by 0.3 seconds. The all-electric SUV also features Audi’s trademark quattro all-wheel drive system.

Fueling the electric motor is a 95kWh 36-module battery pack that’s located in the floor. The battery pack supports charging speeds up to 150kW and can be juiced from zero to 80 per cent in thirty minutes. Audi also claims that the e-tron can do 55 miles (88km) on a 10-minute charge. As far as range is concerned, the e-tron can do about 400km on a full charge. It also has brake energy regeneration function where the energy from the brakes/deceleration is used to charge up the batteries.

The e-tron SUV looks every bit like a typical Audi. The front is dominated by the huge hexagonal grille and the sleek looking LED headlamps. Clean lines and stylish looking 5-spoke wheels are the highlight of the side, with a haunch starting at the rear door and flowing cleanly to the boot. A connected tail lamp rounds up the look at the rear.

And if you’d have noticed, the ORVMs have been replaced by cameras that project the rear view on the doors. The rear view itself can be customised on the particular screen to suit your needs. This setup improves the overall aerodynamics of the SUV.

While the interior design also features the typical Audi straight lines, various screens have replaced buttons and controls. The e-tron gets the Audi trademark virtual cockpit which displays a plethora of information. At the centre, two huge touchscreens have replaced almost all the buttons. You can control various functions of the car through them, including infotainment, drive modes, climate control and more.

The Audi e-tron has no real competitors in India as of now. But it takes on the likes of the Tesla Model X in the international markets. Apart from the e-tron, Audi is also expected to showcase the 2019 A8 and Q8 in the country in the coming week.
