2020 Mahindra Thar Looks Ready For India Launch

After plenty of spottings by automotive paparazzi, it looks like Mahindra is all set to launch the 2020 Thar. The upcoming SUV has been spotted in its production form with white protection film around its body, hinting that this SUV could be on its way to a dealer yard. Reports also state that Mahindra could launch the 2020 Thar by August 2020. 

The 2020 Thar is the second iteration of Mahindra’s popular off-roader. Looking at the spy shots, we could make out that the SUV has grown larger in all directions. The 2020 Thar also looks familiar thanks to identical design elements like the upright stance, 7-slat grille, and the round headlamps. It also comes with premium design elements like 17-inch alloy wheels, LED DRLs, and LED tail lamps.  

Inside, the Thar’s dashboard is more premium and comes loaded to the gills with features. Notable equipment includes a touchscreen infotainment system, climate control, steering-mounted audio controls, cruise control, front power windows, as well as keyless entry. On the safety front, expect it to come with dual airbags, ABS with EBD, and rear parking sensors. For adventure junkies, the hard-top variants of the Thar could also come with a removable roof.  

The 2020 Thar will be powered by two BS6-compliant engines: a 2.0-litre diesel and the new 2.0-litre mStallion petrol unit. The diesel engine is likely to develop 140PS of power and 320Nm of torque, while the petrol motor could put out 190PS and 380Nm. Both engines are likely to be offered with a manual and automatic option. And for off-road enthusiasts, we expect it to come with a low-range transfer case as well.  

Prices for the 2020 Thar are expected to start above the Rs 10-lakh mark (ex-showroom) in the country. The 2020 Thar will rival the Force Gurkha and the upcoming Maruti Suzuki Jimny.
