The second-gen Evoque has been spotted testing in Bangalore with heavy camouflage

2019 Evoque
  • Based on new Premium Transverse Architecture
  • Gets Velar-like design
  • To be powered by 2.0-litre diesel and petrol engines in India

After breaking cover at the LA Motor Show last year, the 2019 Range Rover Evoque has now been spotted testing for the first time in India. The second generation Evoque has been spotted with heavy camouflage in Bangalore.

Despite the test mule’s wrapped exteriors, its crossover styling and Velar-like design is pretty evident. It is based on the company’s new Premium Transverse Architecture platform that has been developed to be compatible with electrification. The 2019 Evoque looks beefier with flared wheel arches, chunky bumpers and flush door handles, which we have already seen on the international model. It still gets the sloping roofline, which is reminiscent of all modern Range Rovers.

Thanks to its new platform, the 2019 Evoque is available with a mild-hybrid system paired with both petrol and diesel Ingenium engines which are available in varying states of tune globally. In India, it will most likely be launched with the 2.0-litre diesel making 180PS of power and 430Nm of peak torque and a 2.0-litre petrol that churns out 249PS and 365Nm. Both engines will come mated to a 9-speed ZF automatic gearbox.  However, it remains to be seen if the India-spec Evoque will get a mild-hybrid tech as well.

Another big addition to the new generation Evoque is the ClearSight Ground View system. It is the practical application of the company’s transparent bonnet concept that debuted with the Discovery Vision Concept. Cameras on the front grille and doors project a 180-degree view of what’s ahead and under the vehicle on the infotainment screen. It also gets the Terrain Response system as standard.

Expected to be launched by the second half of 2019, the second generation Evoque will go up against the likes of the Audi Q5, Volvo XC60 and the Mercedes-Benz GLC in India. With the addition of a host of new features, a new cabin and a hybrid system, you can expect the new Evoque to carry a premium over the outgoing model. The current-gen Evoque retails between Rs 52.06 lakh and Rs 69.53 lakh (ex-showroom Delhi).
