India’s favourite Renault is coming back!

Renault Duster

Renault has been teasing the new India-bound Duster for a while now, but the wait is about to be over! The carmaker is all set to take the wraps off the iconic SUV tomorrow, and here is a gist of all you need to know about it:

2026 Renault Duster: Exterior

From the spy shots we have seen so far, it is safe to assume that the Duster’s styling will remain largely identical to the global version that is also sold in markets like Turkey and Brazil. However, we also know that Renault has made some India-specific tweaks as well, like a connected LED taillamp cluster, which was teased last month.

At the front, it gets a butch profile with a thick silver skid plate and boxy proportions. You also get to see a large grille with ‘RENAULT’ lettering, along with a ‘Y-shaped’ DRL signature in the headlamps. It also gets a sculpted bonnet with a muscular profile for added road presence.

Towards the side, the international version gets 18-inch alloy wheels, although the India-spec could get a different design for them. Besides this, you also get to see muscular flared fenders along with thick cladding and roof rails. Interestingly, Renault has opted to give the rear door handles behind the window for a cleaner, ‘two-door’ look.

The rear-end styling of the Duster continues with the simple and boxy theme with ‘C-shaped’ taillamps, which will be connected by a light strip on the Indian version. You also get to see a thick skid plate and a sharply raked rear windshield, along with a roof spoiler.

2026 Renault Duster: Interior

The Duster has always focused on a ‘function over form’ philosophy, and this continues inside as well. It gets a boxy and upright dashboard with hard-wearing plastics and a rugged visual feel.

That said, modernity isn’t compromised, and it still gets a free-standing touchscreen infotainment screen, a digital instrument cluster and a stubby gear shifter in the centre console.

2026 Renault Duster: Features And Safety

Renault equips the international Duster with a lot of features, including a 10.1-inch touchscreen infotainment system, 7-inch digital instrument cluster, 6-speaker ARKAMYS sound system, wireless charging, rain-sensing wipers, auto headlamps, cruise control and wireless Android Auto/Apple CarPlay.

Safety is taken care of by 6 airbags, electronic stability control, hill hold assist, an electronic parking brake with auto-hold, 360 degree camera and front and rear parking sensors. It could also become the first Renault in India to be offered with an ADAS suite.

2026 Renault Duster: Powertrains

The Duster globally is offered with many engine options; the one most likely to make its way to India is a 1.3-litre mild-hybrid turbo-petrol. Renault could also bring in the 1.6-litre strong-hybrid powertrain in due course, but it is unlikely to be available at launch. Here are the specifications of both these powertrains:

Notably, Renault also offers an all-wheel drive layout with the 1.3-litre engine globally, which could also be on cards for India, given the Duster’s rugged personality.

2026 Renault Duster: Launch Date, Price And Rivals

While we expect Renault to launch the Duster in the next few months, we will know more details about it when it is unveiled on January 26. While we await confirmation, it is likely to be priced from Rs 10 lakh (ex-showroom).

When on sale, it will compete with cars like the Hyundai Creta, Kia Seltos, Maruti Grand Vitara and Victoris, Tata Sierra, Volkswagen Taigun, Toyota Urban Cruiser Hyryder, Honda Elevate, MG Astor and upcoming models like the facelifted Skoda Kushaq and the Nissan Tekton, with which it will share its underpinnings.

ZigSays…

An enthusiast-favourite, the Duster, since its introduction in India, has carved out its own identity. After a break of 4 years, it has once again created a lot of excitement amongst the prospective buyers in the compact SUV segment. That said, times have changed, and Renault needs to ensure it brings the right spec at the right price to grab a good chunk of the compact SUV segment pie.
