Sales numbers for July 2024 are in, and to no one's surprise, the list is largely dominated by SUVs. The Hyundai Creta, a leader in the compact SUV segment, has emerged as the best selling car for July 2024, marking the first time for the facelifted 2024 Creta to top the list. Notably, Maruti's minivan, the Eeco, has made its way into the top 10 this time around. Here are the top 10 best-selling cars in India for July 2024.

After breaking multiple sales records, the updated Hyundai Creta has now topped the list of best-selling cars in July 2024. The compact SUV recorded 17,350 units in sales, setting an all-time high for its monthly numbers. Additionally, it registered a year-on-year growth of 23 percent and was home to 1,057 more buyers than in June 2024.

The Hyundai Creta is available with three engine options: a 115 PS/144 Nm 1.5-litre naturally aspirated (NA) petrol engine, a 160 PS/253 Nm 1.5-litre turbo-petrol engine, and a 116 PS/250 Nm 1.5-litre diesel engine. Transmission choices include a 6-speed manual or CVT for the NA petrol engine, a 7-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission for the turbo-petrol unit, and a 6-speed manual or 6-speed automatic for the diesel powertrain choice. The sportier N Line version can also be had with a manual gearbox for the 1.5-litre turbo-petrol engine.

Coming in second is May 2024's best seller, the Maruti Suzuki Swift, with 16,854 units sold in July 2024. Compared to the previous month, it saw a marginal increase of 2.63 percent but experienced a 6 percent dip in year-on-year sales. Recently, the new-gen Swift was crash tested by Euro NCAP, scoring three out of five stars.

Available with a single 82 PS/112 Nm 1.2-litre 3-cylinder petrol engine choice, you can configure the 2024 Maruti Swift with either a 5-speed manual or a 5-speed AMT. The Maruti Suzuki Wagon R is offered with two petrol engine options: a 67 PS/89 Nm 1-litre unit and a 90 PS/113 Nm 1.2-litre petrol unit. Both powertrain choices are paired with either a 5-speed manual or a 5-speed AMT. You can further configure the 1-litre petrol engine option with a factory-fitted CNG kit, mated to a 5-speed manual transmission only.
In the features department, the Wagon R boasts a 7-inch touchscreen infotainment system, a 4-speaker sound system, power windows, and steering-mounted audio controls. Safety features include dual front airbags, ABS with EBD, rear parking sensors, and hill-hold assist.
Tata's micro-SUV, the Punch, narrowly missed overtaking the Wagon R for third place by just 71 units. The Indian automaker delivered 16,121 units of the Punch in July 2024, reflecting an 11.60 percent decline from the previous month. However, it saw a growth of 34 percent when compared with July 2023 numbers. Note that these figures also include sales of the Punch EV.

Coming on to the Punch EV, it is available with two battery pack options: a 25 kWh and a 35 kWh battery pack. Its powertrain specifications are detailed below:

In July 2024, Maruti delivered nearly the same number of Ertigas as in June 2024, with 15,701 units sold, just 201 units fewer than in the previous month. Notably, the MPV saw an increase of 1,349 units compared to July 2023 numbers. Looking at these numbers, it's safe to say the Ertiga remains a popular choice for buyers looking for a practical 7-seater MPV.

As for its features, the Ertiga comes equipped with a 7-inch touchscreen infotainment system with wireless Android Auto/Apple CarPlay, a 6-speaker sound system, paddle shifters (automatic transmission variants), and automatic climate control. July 2024 has been a good month for the Maruti Brezza. The subcompact SUV registered sales of 14,676 units, up from 13,172 units sold in June 2024. However, these numbers are still less than the 16,543 units sold in July of last year. Regardless, it beats the Tata Nexon by 774 units for sixth position.

Additionally, the engine is available in CNG variants, which delivers 88 PS and 121.5 Nm, and is only paired to a 5-speed manual transmission.

July 2024 has been great for the Tata Nexon as well, with sales reaching 13,902 units. This allowed the Nexon to jump three positions compared to June 2024 and register a 13 percent increase year-on-year, along with over 15 percent growth in terms month-on-month basis. Do note that these numbers also include sales of Nexon EV.

In terms of features, the Nexon EV includes a 12.3-inch touchscreen infotainment system with Android Auto/Apple CarPlay, a 10.25-inch digital driver’s display, 9-speaker JBL sound system, ventilated front seats, automatic climate control, a wireless phone charger, and a sunroof. On the safety front, it gets six airbags, ABS with EBD, electronic stability control, an electronic parking brake with auto hold, and a 360-degree camera with front and rear parking sensors.
In July 2024, both variants of the Scorpio, the Scorpio Classic and the Scorpio N, garnered a total of 12,237 buyers in India. These figures are slightly below the 12,307 units sold in June 2024 but are 1,715 units more than the July 2023 sales.

Powered by a 132 PS/ 300 Nm 2.2-litre diesel engine, the Mahindra Scorpio Classic is mated to a 6-speed manual transmission. It comes equipped with features such as a 9-inch touchscreen infotainment system (no Android Auto / Apple CarPlay), cruise control, automatic climate control, dual front airbags, and rear parking sensors.
The Scorpio N on the other hand, is offered with a 2.2-litre diesel engine in two tunes - 132 PS/ 300 Nm or 175 PS/ up to 400 Nm. You can also get it with a 203 PS / up to 380 Nm 2-litre turbo-petrol engine. Transmission options include a 6-speed manual or 6-speed AT for both powertrain choices.
As for its features, the Scorpio N comes equipped with a 8-inch touchscreen infotainment system with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, a 12-speaker Sony sound system, dual-zone automatic climate control, cruise control, and wireless phone charging. Safety features include up to six airbags, electronic stability control , a tyre pressure monitoring system, and hill hold assist.
Coming in at ninth place is the Maruti Suzuki Eeco, with 11,916 units sold in July 2024. The minivan experienced a 1 percent decline compared to July 2023, but saw a 10.63 percent growth on a monthly basis. Currently, it has no direct rivals but competes with the Renault Triber in terms of pricing. Maruti offers the Eeco in both 5-seater and 7-seater variants.

Ending the list is the Maruti Dzire, which dropped to tenth place from seventh in June 2024. In July, Maruti delivered over 11,600 units of the subcompact sedan, marking a 13.56 percent decline from the 13,421 units sold in June of this year. It also saw a dip from the 13,395 units sold in July 2023.
