Maruti Suzuki Wagon R Completes 25 Years In India With 32 Lakh Units Sold

Maruti Suzuki’s Wagon R is celebrating its 25th anniversary in the Indian market. Since its introduction in 1999, Maruti has sold over 32 lakh units of the Wagon R in the market, out of which 6.6 lakh units were CNG-powered. Currently, it is available in 4 variants, namely LXi, VXi, ZXi, and ZXi Plus, and gets 9 paint options. Notably, the prices of the Wagon R range between Rs 5.55 lakh to Rs 7.33 lakh (ex-showroom).

The Maruti Wagon R has been one of the best-selling models in the country, often featuring on the top-sellers list. Not only that, it is also the highest-selling CNG-powered vehicle in India, since it was one of the first cars in the country to come with a factory-fitted CNG kit. Notably, the Wagon R is now in its third-generation, which was launched way back in 2019.

Maruti Wagon R: Overview

In terms of features, the Wagon R comes with idle engine start/stop, keyless entry, a 7-inch touchscreen infotainment system, 4 speakers, front fog lamps, powered ORVMs with auto-fold, and steering mounted controls. On the safety front, it gets dual front airbags, hill hold assist (AMT-only), rear parking sensors, ABS with EBD and electronic stability programme (ESP).

Maruti Wagon R: Powertrain

Powering the Wagon R is a 1.2-litre 4-cylinder naturally-aspirated petrol engine that makes 90 PS and 113 Nm, and a 1-litre 3-cylinder naturally-aspirated petrol unit producing 67 PS and 89 Nm. The latter is also available in a CNG version, which delivers 57 PS and 82.1 Nm. Transmission options include a 5-speed manual and an AMT transmission. The CNG variants are available only with the manual gearbox.

The Wagon R takes on the Renault Kwid, and Tata Tiago. It is also a more spacious alternative to the Maruti Alto K10 and the Maruti Celerio.
