It has been quite some time since Tata gave its entry-level Tiago hatchback a major update, and now the carmaker seems to be in the process of testing a comprehensive facelift that could see it carrying a heavily reworked design, a longer feature list and a more powerful engine option!
Here are all the details you need to know about the upcoming avatar of the Tiago, with these exclusive spy shots:
Starting off from the styling, which has gone through major changes as seen in these exclusive spyshots. Up front, we can see that it’ll get a slimmer grille, along with reprofiled headlamps and a new bumper as well.

From the side profile, it will retain the outgoing car’s silhouette with, but it will get a new quirky design for its alloy wheels for a bolder look.

While this test mule has heavy camouflage, we can see that it will get a completely new rear-end with a reprofiled tailgate, new LED taillamps and a flatter bumper. With this update, Tata is also likely to add some new shades to its colour palette.

While these spyshots do not show the interior design of the test mule, expect the Tiago facelift to get a refreshed dashboard with a digital instrument cluster and an updated touchscreen infotainment system. It could also feature a touch-based climate control panel like we have seen in other Tata cars like the Punch and Nexon.
The Tiago facelift could also get a revised colour scheme inside for a more airier feel.
The feature-list of the new Tiago is likely to feature some key additions like an updated 10.25-inch touchscreen infotainment system, a 7-inch digital instrument cluster, a better sound system and ambient lighting. Other features such as automatic climate control, wireless charger, rain-sensing wipers, auto headlamps, wireless Android Auto/Apple CarPlay and cruise control will continue to be offered.

In terms of safety, it could get a major upgrade in the form of 6 airbags as opposed to 2 in the current car and a 360-degree camera. Besides this it is likely to offer electronic stability control, a tyre pressure monitoring system, hill start assist, rear wiper and defogger and reverse parking sensors.
Under the hood, the Tiago is expected to continue with the same 1.2-litre naturally aspirated petrol engine paired to 5-speed manual and AMT gearbox options. This powertrain can also be had with factory-fitted dual-cylinder CNG setup for buyers looking for more economical running costs.

However, the facelift could also add the option of a more powerful 1.2-litre turbo-petrol engine with a 6-speed manual gearbox, just like we have seen in the recently-updated Punch. Here are the detailed specifications:

While the official launch date remains unconfirmed, Tata is likely to introduce this facelift sometime in July this year. When launched, it is expected to be priced between Rs 5 lakh to 9 lakh (ex-showroom).

The Tiago goes up against the Maruti Swift and Hyundai Grand i10 Nios. It also serves as an alternative to micro-SUVs like the Tata Punch, Hyundai Exter and Citroen C3.

Despite not getting the limelight within Tata’s lineup often, the Tiago has proved itself to be one of the most popular hatchbacks in the entry-level segment and has consistently proven itself to be a volume-puller. This facelift could certainly give it some more pizzazz and keep it fresh until we see a new generation by the end of this decade.
