The Honda City is currently the leader in the compact sedan segment in India. And the recently unveiled Skoda Slavia aims to usurp Honda with a solid package. That said, the Skoda is still some time away (it will be launched in March 2022).
We wanted to know whether you'd wait for the Skoda or pick the tried-and-tested City. To find that out, we conducted a poll on our Instagram page. Here are the results:
A total of 502 respondents participated in this poll. And as many as 333 participants picked the Skoda Slavia over the Honda City.
The Slavia is the second model (after the Kushaq) under Skoda's India 2.0 strategy. It looks like a baby Octavia on the outside and has a premium cabin to wow buyers. Even the feature list ticks almost all the boxes. Buyers get to choose from two turbo-petrol options, each paired with manual and automatic transmissions. The fifth-gen Honda City is equally impressive with a comfortable ride and remarkable backseat experience. It is Honda's flagship model, and the sedan looks premium and offers decent features. It can also be had with a 1.5-litre diesel engine, giving it an advantage over the Slavia. Read our in-depth first drive review to know what we think of the sedan.
Skoda will likely price the Slavia from around Rs 10 lakh, putting it in contention with the Hyundai Verna, Maruti Suzuki Ciaz, and the upcoming VW Vento successor and Toyota Belta. Meanwhile, the Honda City is priced from Rs 11.16 lakh (ex-showroom).
