  • To be powered by a 1.5-litre K15C petrol engine, 1.4-litre turbo could be a possibility.  

  • Will get an AllGrip 4x4 system similar to its three-door counterpart. 

  • Likely to be priced from Rs 10 lakh onwards (ex-showroom). 

We’ve waited a long while for the Maruti Jimny in India, but finally, a launch seems on the horizon. The five-door SUV has once again been caught on camera while altitude testing in Leh. It could revive the Gypsy name and is expected to break cover at Auto Expo 2023.

Jimny specs and expected features 

The Maruti Jimny 5-door is expected to offer the same 103PS 1.5-litre K15C petrol engine in India as other larger Marutis such as the Ertiga, XL6, Brezza and Grand Vitara. In addition, Suzuki’s 1.4-litre Boosterjet turbo petrol engine could also make its debut in the Jimny. As with the international-spec three-door Jimny, the India-spec five-door model will get Suzuki’s AllGrip Pro 4x4 system.

Previously, spy shots have revealed the five-door Jimny’s interior. Its cabin layout will be largely similar to the three-door SUV that exists overseas, equipped with a large 9-inch touchscreen. The long-wheelbase Jimny should also be equipped with features such as 360-degree camera, six airbags or even a sunroof, that we’ve seen in recent Maruti SUVs.

We expect the five-door Maruti Jimny to break cover in India at Auto Expo 2023, ahead of which we are likely to see the SUV revealed globally. It’s expected to be retailed through Maruti’s Nexa dealerships, priced from around Rs 10 lakh (ex-showroom).
