The new facelifted Hector has a 14-inch portrait touchscreen and advanced driver assistance features

  • Facelifted MG Hector will be sold alongside its predecessor.

  • Will get revised interior styling with a new portrait infotainment screen.

  • ADAS features such as adaptive cruise control and auto emergency braking to be offered.

  • Likely to continue with similar petrol and diesel powertrains as the existing Hector.

  • Launch around the festive season.

MG has announced the forthcoming arrival of the new Hector in India with a teaser on social media. According to sources within the know, the updated Hector will be sold alongside its predecessor upon its launch around the festive season.

The official teaser has given us an early insight into the upcoming SUV’s revised cabin and touchscreen.

New features for a more premium MG Hector

The new Hector will slot above its existing counterpart as a more premium alternative. It’ll get a 14-inch portrait-style touchscreen that floats above an all-new dashboard. Similar to the existing SUV, it’s likely to get premium features such as a panoramic sunroof and powered tailgate.

Existing MG Hector interior

The Hector was already equipped with class-leading features such as a 48-volt mild hybrid system and the aforementioned sunroof when it was first launched in 2019. Its updated version is expected to be even better equipped to compete with newer SUVs such as the Mahindra XUV700 that have raised the bar for compact SUVs.

Major Safety update for 2022 MG Hector

Currently, the MG Hector offers safety features such as a 360-degree camera and six airbags. The new Hector will go a step further with active safety features such as auto emergency braking with pedestrian protection, adaptive headlights and blind spot detection with rear cross-traffic alert.

Similar to the MG Astor, the new Hector will offer ADAS features such as adaptive cruise control, lane keeping assist, lane change assist and speed assist systems.

We expect the new SUV to offer similar powertrains as the existing Hector – a 143PS 1.5-litre petrol engine with a mild hybrid option and a 170PS 2-litre turbo diesel unit. A 6-speed manual gearbox is standard, but the mild hybrid petrol variant is offered with a CVT automatic option.

The new MG Hector’s advanced features and important safety updates will come at a sizable premium. We expect the facelifted Hector to be priced around 19 to 22 lakh (ex-showroom) which would place it in the ballpark of its competition. For reference, the ADAS-equipped XUV700 AX7 variant costs upwards of Rs 19.2 lakh (all prices are ex-showroom).
