Kia recently revealed the 2024 Carnival, which is the facelifted version of the new-generation Carnival. The MPV boasts modern design elements and a new cabin with a host of premium features. In this article, we will be comparing it with its closest rival, the Toyota Innova Hycross, which is a stalwart in the Indian MPV space and arguably the most popular family mover in our country. Let’s find out how these two fare in this head to head comparison:
Model |
Toyota Innova Hycross |
Kia Carnival |
Price (ex-showroom) |
Rs 18.92 lakh to Rs 30.98 lakh |
Rs 50 lakh (expected price) |
The Innova Hycross’ price ranges from around Rs 19 lakh to Rs 31 lakh, and the difference between the base-spec and top-spec is because of the availability of both hybrid and non-hybrid variants. The strong hybrid tech used in the higher-spec variants of the Hycross is relatively more expensive than the non-hybrid powertrain available with the lower-spec variants.
Prices for the Carnival are not out yet, but the MPV is expected to be priced around the Rs 50 lakh mark, making it the costlier MPV in this comparison. Now, let’s take a look at what these two pack:
Dimensions |
Toyota Innova Hycross |
Kia Carnival |
Length |
4755 mm |
5155 mm |
Width |
1850 mm |
1995 mm |
Height |
1790 mm |
1775 mm |
Wheelbase |
2850 mm |
3090 mm |
As seen above, the upcoming Carnival is the longer and wider MPV of the two. It also sits on a longer wheelbase which means it will have more cabin space, at least on paper. Out of the two, the Hycross is marginally taller.

The Carnival packs extra niceties and comforts over the Hycross. Most features are common between the two, but the equipment on offer is slightly more in number in the Carnival. Additional features for it come in the form of bigger screens, head-up display, ventilation for the second row seats and additional wireless phone charger for the rear passengers.
That being said, at the price which the Hycross is offered at, it is also a really well-equipped MPV and takes care of your needs and requirements.

The Hycross comes with non-hybrid petrol and strong-hybrid petrol engine options, while the Carnival gets a single diesel engine
The Carnival produces more power than both powertrain options of the Hycross
The torque output of the Carnival is more than double of what you get with the Hycross
While Kia hasn’t revealed the fuel efficiency figures, the hybrid powertrain of the Innova Hycross will definitely be more economical.
You won’t go wrong with either the Kia Carnival or the Toyota Innova Hycross. But do note that the new-gen Kia Carnival will be brought in a fully imported model and will cost much more than the Toyota Innova Hycross. But the Kia justifies that with a longer list of features, more space on the inside and obviously, a much premium nature.
The Toyota Innova Hycross, on the other hand, is a safe bet you can’t go wrong with. Yes, it might not have the same level of premium experience as the new-gen Carnival. But it still has enough space for seven occupants, has all the features one would need for your daily usage and a hybrid powertrain that offers good fuel efficiency.
If you have the money, and want to offer your family a premium set of wheels, the Carnival will offer you a better experience. But if you can’t afford the premium, the Toyota Innova Hycross won’t disappoint you a bit.
We would like to know your thoughts about these two MPVs. Which one would you pick? And why? Let us know in the comments below.
