The 2024 Hyundai Creta facelift has just been launched in the country. It gets what most will call more-than-a mere-facelift treatment with a revised styling and cabin, new features and a new engine option. Parallels are being drawn between its styling and the smaller sub-4m SUV Venue’s design language. Considering that it isn’t just their design that overlaps each other, there is bound to be some cross shopping, and we are here to simplify your buying decision.

So here’s a comparison between the top-spec Venue SX(O) and the mid-spec *Creta S MT. Prices for the former range between Rs 12.44 lakh and Rs 13.38 lakh, while the Creta S petrol is sold at Rs 13.39 lakh (ex-showroom).
*Note: The Creta S is also available with a 1.5-litre diesel manual powertrain, but that hasn’t been included in this test considering the price premium (+1.5 lakh over Creta S petrol).
Let’s get started:

With an ex-showroom budget of Rs 13.39 lakh, the table above represents the powertrain options that can be had with the Creta and Venue. There are clearly more options available with the Venue, including the option of a diesel-MT for a lower price of Rs 13.18 lakh.
Even if you opt for the turbo-petrol manual, you’ll be saving nearly Rs 1 lakh in comparison to the Creta.

There was never a doubt that the Creta is going to be the bigger car. It always has been, offering more room not just for its occupants inside but even their baggage as well. If you’re frequently going to be travelling with 5 people onboard, you should consider the Creta. That said, the Venue is sufficient enough for a small family of four and a weekend’s worth of luggage.

Even though the Creta S gets the basics covered, the expansive features list of the top-spec Venue can’t be ignored. It even gets Level-1 ADAS features and a dashcam. Other feel-good features that the Venue packs over the mid-spec Creta include 4-way powered driver seat, electric single-pane sunroof, automatic AC, ambient lighting and wireless phone chargers.
If you’re one for the experience and the functionality of the features, then the Venue clearly wins in that aspect.
Considering the price range of the Venue SX(O) and the engine options on offer, it makes sense to pick it over the Creta S and its 1.5-litre NA petrol engine. The Venue’s diesel will offer you a depth of ability without being too heavy on your pocket (running cost), whereas the turbo petrol engine and its DCT gearbox combination will offer you performance thrills and won’t leave you wanting for more.
Even the feature experience of the Venue SX(O) surpasses the Creta’s feature list, so all your comforts will be taken care of. Picking the Creta S petrol would only make sense if your usage is limited inside the city and you’re looking for a smooth SUV with lots of space for your family.
You’ll have to change gears yourself and not expect it to be an all rounder, given that you will have to sacrifice on the features front. If you can stretch your budget for the higher trims of the Creta – well and good, but under Rs 13.39 lakh, it is the Venue SX(O) that makes more sense in the larger scheme of things.
