The Pininfarina Pura Vision is a zany looking concept, which will inspire the design of the brand’s future luxury products

Mahindra-owned Pinninfarina has introduced the Pura Vision electric concept ahead of its public debut at the Monterey Car Week, scheduled between August 17 and 20, 2023. The Pura Vision’s design previews what’s to come from the brand in the future, as it debuts the company’s Pura design philosophy. It has been developed entirely in-house by Pininfarina’s workforce in Italy

Now, the marque is calling it an electric Luxury Utility Vehicle (e-LUV), but what we see is a luxury crossover-SUV. We say crossover because the silhouette gives out clear crossover vibes with its sloping roofline, similar to what we’ve seen on the Kia EV6.

Design

The muscular front is defined by the long hood with creases that flow into the flared and curved fenders on the side. The headlights have been hidden inside the panel beneath the long hood and the lower section has been divided into three sections for cooling and aerodynamic performance.

The raked roofline and beefy quarter panels look striking, especially with the curved glass windowline and 23-inch alloy wheels. The curvaceous rear end sports ultra slim horizontal LED taillights. The muscular nature of the rear half of the Pura Vision really comes alive when looked at directly from the rear. The sculpted carbon fibre bumper looks aggressive while the glasshouse windows that taper down smoothly into the body further help accentuate its haunches.

Unique door layout

The way the doors of the Pininfarina Pura Vision have been set up, deserve a dedicated section to talk about. The front doors open normally, like you’ll find in almost every road car, but the rear doors have been inspired from Rolls Royce. They open backwards, but that’s not all. Remember the glass windowline we talked about in the design section? That swings up, similar to a gullwing door!

When everything is wide open, you get an unobstructed view of the cabin (which is more like a lounge), thanks to the pillarless setup and rear-hinged back doors.

Minimalist cabin

Man, these concepts and their interior layouts are getting out of hand, or rather spoiling us, knowing what can be, but just isn’t there yet. You get four separate seats in what seems nothing less than a lounge setup. The dashboard is minimalistic and uninterrupted by any screen as the infotainment unit has been integrated within the central tunnel separating the driver and passenger. The two-spoke steering wheel gets a display for the driver behind, complemented by two small round screens on either side.

The use of glass all around will allow ample light to flow into the cabin and liberate a sense of airiness if there wasn’t enough already. You further get an integrated wine cooler between the pair of rear seats, making sure you zen out to the highest level.

Powertrain

All that's been made known to the public is the fact that it is going to be an all electric vehicle, and there won’t be any ICE powertrain complementing the batteries. So any speculation at this point would be vague, but we can say for a fact that going by Pinninfarina’s reputation, expect some bonkers performance figures, enough to make a few sports/supercars cry in the corner.

Production Model Launch timeline

All is good until someone pops this question. Given that it is currently in concept form, Pinninfarina is yet to confirm whether this will make its way into production or not. What’s for sure is that the design language seen here will define future products to come from the brand. It’ll make its public world premiere during Monterey Car Week.

If Pinninfarina does decide to put it into production sometime later down the line, it’ll rival the likes of the Audi Q8 e-tron, BMW iX, Volvo EX90 and Lotus Eletre.
