Today, Ola Electric has commenced the construction of India’s biggest Gigafactory in Krishnagiri, Tamil Nadu. The electric vehicle manufacturer has constructed the first pillar of this new factory and says it’ll be the fastest built Gigafactory in India. This news comes after Tesla has confirmed it’ll be coming to the Indian market.
Commenting on this development, Bhavish Aggarwal, Founder and CEO, Ola Electric said “This is a proud moment for us as we installed the first pillar of our Gigafactory today. Our Gigafactory will be a major milestone in India’s electrification journey, bringing us closer to making India a global EV hub.”

Ola aims to start operation as early as 2024 with an initial capacity of 5GWh and further be expanded to its full capacity of 100GWh on a phase-wise basis. The company has recently invested in cell and battery tech and even has a research and development centre in Bengaluru, Karnataka.
Also, the company has recently signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Tamil Nadu government to expand manufacturing of its two-wheelers, four-wheelers and battery cells. Speaking of which, Ola will be hosting a product event in July where it will announce a new variant of the S1 electric scooter and probably might give some updates about its upcoming electric car as well. Stay tuned.
