Kia India has revealed the country’s first 150kWh fast charger at its Dhingra Kia facility in Gurugram. This is the fastest charger that’s present in the country at the moment and claims to charge from 10 to 80 percent under 42 minutes, depending on the model and its support for charging speeds.
Commenting on the latest development, Myung-sik Sohn, Chief Sales Officer at Kia India, said, "We’re now incredibly excited to inaugurate the first DC fast charger for passenger vehicles with 150 kWh charging capacity, playing our role in India’s EV growth story. We believe that such fast-charging solutions will take away issues of range anxiety & charging time that EV owners face. We shall be installing a total of 15 such chargers across 12 cities by August, 2022, and are hopeful that such small steps will go a long way in fostering EV adoption in the country. "
The Korean carmaker was quick to add that it will be expanding its charging network to more of its EV-specific dealerships across India.
At present, Kia retails the swanky EV6, which is brought to India as a full import. It can be had in either rear-wheel or all-wheel drive models, both teamed with a 77.4kWh battery pack. Also, the EV6 is the safest Kia car offered in India, acing the more stringent Euro NCAP crash test with full five stars. To know our impressions on the EV6, read our in-depth first drive report.
The Korean carmaker is also working on an India-centric EV, which will go on sale in 2025. You can read about this development here.
